Luxury of the Counts Szapáry

On the 70th anniversary of the Pomurje Museum Murska Sobota, which has been housed in the former Szapáry Castle in Murska Sobota since its establishment in January 1955, we are presenting pieces of the former castle furnishings, which were taken from Murska Sobota 95 years ago, as the central anniversary exhibition. Due to an auction held to pay off the debts of the last Count of Murska Sobota, the rooms in the three-story castle, whose furniture is considered the most remarkable in Slovenia between the two world wars, were left almost completely empty. The special exhibition features pieces of furniture and interior design items that are now part of the collections of the National Museum of Slovenia, the Maribor Regional Museum, and the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz, Austria. The exhibition will be open until the end of May 2026.
